It’s quite likely that every blog post and article ending 2020 will begin ‘What a year’, and this one is no exception!
Variety and change are something I have always loved about being in PR, but 2020 took this to the extreme.
In a year of unbelievable tragedy and hardship it almost feels wrong to shout about business success. But when I say success, read that as ‘survival’.
In the Works PR has survived. We’ve survived every plan being ripped up and rewritten – new ones, old ones, makeshift ones – with each government announcement. We’ve adapted, embraced new technology and found new ways of working (Some that are better!).
As a team we’ve survived working from home, whilst balancing the demands of toddlers, home schooling and excitable dogs.
Zoom has enabled us to do business while becoming equally loved and loathed by us all. We’ve also missed the and getting out and about.
But out of crisis can come opportunity – as I discovered myself when I was made redundant nearly 10 years ago and In the Works PR was subsequently established.
Emma and I feared the worst as the first lockdown was announced, questioning how some of our clients, particularly those in the hospitality industry, could survive. However, we were to be proved wrong.
Lockdown meant that overnight marketing went virtually wholly digital, leading to a wealth of enquiries for both eBusiness Works and In the Works PR. The pandemic brought forward the PR and marketing plans for a number of businesses and, for that, we are thankful.
We go into 2021 in good shape with five new clients – Edwards Employment Solutions, Red Rose Recruitment, Purseglove Property Management, Rebecca Kirk and Great British Journey.
Although we’re not through the yet, I am delighted that the businesses that we worked with throughout 2020 have survived and, in some instances, thrived.
Not everyone has been as fortunate. I have seen many respected former colleagues and clients find themselves out of work during the pandemic. We wish them and every business well in 2021.
Have a healthy New Year.
