Every year seems to go faster than the previous one, so we’ve taken the opportunity below to give a snapshot of what we got up to in 2016.
In December 2015 we said that we were looking for an apprentice to join the team. We didn’t hang around either. We recruited not one, but two Digital Marketing Apprentices – Ben and Joe.
In February, we got to meet Switzerland’s answer to Coldplay, 77 Bombay Street, at YHA’s head office in Matlock before they set off on their Youth Hostel tour. Watch a short film about the MTV-award winning band and their YHA tour here.
Chesterfield’s £320 million development, Chesterfield Waterside, went into planning, which coincided with us kicking off the media management and social media management campaign for our client.
United Rental Group (URG) celebrated 25 years in business and what a great opportunity for us to put together a bumper issue of the United Networker newsletter for the company’s UK-wide Licensee network.
We were delighted, once again, to sponsor the Fashion and Footwear Retailer of the Year category at the Chesterfield Retail Awards organised by Destination Chesterfield. The winners of the category – Peter’s Shoemakers and Outfitters – definitely didn’t disappoint.
It was also the month that NLT’s engineering apprenticeship brochure hit the shelves – a collaboration between ourselves and Creative Asset. We were really keen to include real-life examples to inspire the next generation of apprentices, and companies were more than happy to oblige. It was closely followed by the Business Skills apprenticeship brochure.
We got our teeth into another high profile regeneration scheme. This time we announced that client Urbo had submitted plans for the ambitious £175 million mixed-use West Bar Square scheme in Sheffield city centre.
We also got to party when we organised the first ever PK Education Awards at YHA Castleton Losehill Hall. Not only did we celebrate staff success, but the brand new look for PK Education was unveiled.
And Radio 5 Live came to town. Colletta Smith from the live broadcast team pitched up in Chesterfield for a day and we introduced them to a number of businesses in and around the town.
We welcomed another new client aboard – Foxwood Diesel, a UK leading builder and repairer of commercial engine parts.
Two of our clients – Mitchells Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers and Start Financial Planning – collaborated to bring a fresh approach to financial planning for owner-managed businesses in North East Derbyshire.
Mitchells was also nominated for the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce Employer of the Year award. Great for them and also us, as it increased our success rate for a shortlist or win for the awards we write to 94%.
It was a big news month for YHA (England and Wales) as it announced plans to build a super hostel at Stratford in London.
We were also delighted to be involved with the fourth annual Chesterfield Food and Drink Awards – the best and biggest one yet we thought. It was also a big month for client Northern Tea Merchants, which was a finalist in the Food and Drink Awards and also opened its brand-new Pekoe Café on Chatsworth Road.
As if one brand new Youth Hostel in the pipeline wasn’t enough, a second flagship site – The Sill national landscape discovery centre at Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland, hit the headlines when the Duchess of Northumberland led the topping off ceremony.
We also maintained our success rate for award writing. Mitchells Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers was shortlisted for the People Development Award at the Derbyshire Times Business Awards.
We have enjoyed a successful end to a successful and busy year. Chesterfield Waterside had outline planning consent granted for the heights and massing of buildings at phase 1 of Basin Square.
Thank you for your support in 2016.
From all of us here at In the Works PR, we wish you all a happy, healthy and successful 2017.
